“Mighty Armies” is the name of a fantasy miniatures wargame. It was developed and released by Mongoose Publishing and has subsequently been transferred to, and further developed by, Rebel Minis.
The initial releases by Mongoose consisted of a series of box sets plus one or two expansion blisters for each army.
The box sets contained
1) A rulebook
2) A measuring stick
3) Dice
4) Miniatures and bases for a stock army of standard size
5) A reference sheet detailing the game statistics for all the units for the army (box and blisters)
The armies released by Mongoose were
Orcs
Barbarians
Wild Elves
Sorceror’s Legion
Dwarves
Undead
The playing area for a standard battle was 2 foot square. Units consisted of groups of bases, 1-6 bases in size. Each unit had a defined cost and a standard army was 40 points in size chosen from the fixed list of around 5-10 troop types per army. A typical army would have around 10-12 bases of troops. The game is an IGOUGO type with each player rolling dice to determine the number of action points available to them and using those points to activate units and perform other actions, including magic. Larger battles can be fought by enlarging the number of points in an army or, as suggested in the rules, simply having a number of armies on the table. There a number of similarities to the DBx line of miniature wargames.
Since taking over the game, the Sorceror’s Legion is no longer available from the new oweners pending a revamp of the army and Rebel Minis have released additional armies including;
Dark Dwarves
Wolf Clan Goblins
Weasel Clan Goblins
Bat Clan Goblins
Rebel Minis have also released a Historical Ancients version of the ruleset.
