I’m in the process of collecting Victorian Science Fiction / Steampunk links for an upcoming special event. During the month of December (or maybe January, depending upon how fast I collect them), I plan to feature a different VSF link every day—in addition to the regular daily link.
I’m looking for links to VSF rules sets, rules modifications, tips on modeling, conversions and terrain, figure reviews, scenarios and photogalleries. Actually, I’d love to see practically anything as long as it’s VSF oriented. The only other rule is that it has to be “non-commercial” (although free add-ons for commercial stuff is fine, e.g. scenarios for GASLIGHT).
If you’ve got a webpage (or two ... or three) with VSF materials, this is your chance to promote it (them). Click on the contact form above to send them to the editor.
My goal this month is to present at least 31 halloween and horror related links for your miniature wargames. I’ll present at least one Halloween related link each day, in addition to the regular daily posting.
If you have a link you’d like to contribute, use the contact form.
MiniatureWargaming dot Com has reached two milestones this week: 1,000 posts and 500,000 hits.
Also, a reminder: you now can ad your own site to the MiniatureWargaming directory. Just go to the directory using the link above, find an appropriate section, and click Add Your Site. Sites that offer a reciprocal link will gain premium status and automatically are moved ahead in searches and listings. If your site already is listed (and it may very well be), you can get premium status by adding a link and then contacting the editor.
Google just published its new PageRank numbers, and MiniatureWargaming rose from a 5 to a 6.
That makes this site one of the top wargames sites on the web.
Pagerank is Google’s way of measuring the “importance” of a site, based on a variety of criteria, including the number of, and “importance” of links to a site from other sites.
By way of comparison:
Google is a 10.
Games Workshop, Grognard dot Com, Wargames dot Com, (and, or course, MiniatureWargaming) all are 6s.
The Miniatures Page, Larry Leadhead, FreeWargamesRules and The Major General’s site are all 5s.
So this puts MiniatureWargaming dot Com in rarefied company indeed.
I’m grateful for everyone who visits this site, and who have deemed it worth linking to. Things like this are a huge ego boost and why I keep working on the site.
Miniature Wargaming not only had its biggest day ever yesterday, but it also reached a new milestone: 300,000 total hits since March 2004. I must confess: I thought it might take a couple of years to reach such a number. I’m glad so many people are finding this site worthy of a visit.

Posting will be a bit slow the next couple of days as I work out all the bugs in my new setup. After that, I’ll return to my regular posting schedule. In the meantime, please look around and let me know if things are working.
I’m in the middle of reconstructing the site using a different blogging engine. It should all work much better in the future. Bear with me for the next few days.
Miniature Wargaming is part of the "adventure games" hobby, which includes r ole p laying and board games. Wargamers recreate battles on the tabletop with toy soldiers, like a more complicated game of chess. Models range in height from 6mm to 28mm tall, with 15mm and 25mm being the most popular. There also is a growing interest in toy soldiers and military models, such as the 1/32 and 1/35 scale plastic soldiers from Conte, and Marx.
The most popular miniature wargames are fantasy and science fiction based, such as Warhammer, Warhammer 40K, Warmachine and The Lord of the Rings. World War II games such as Flames of War and Axis and Allies are new favorites. Other favorite historical periods include Napoleonics, the American Civil War, and ancients, such as Romans or Greeks. Other gamers enjoy miniature naval wargames, recreating battles like Trafalgar, Jutland and the Coral Sea.
Hobbyists research historical periods and paint their tiny soldiers in accurate uniforms. Others develop "historically realistic" rules sets or build scale battlefield terrain using model railroad techniques.

Some of the bigger hobby companies are Games Workshop, which produces Warhammer, Wargames Foundry and Old Glory Miniatures. Wizards of the Coast produces several lines of pre-painted miniatures games, such as the Star Wars and Dungeons and Dragons miniatures games, and a historical game with pre-painted miniatures: The new Axis and Allies game. Wizkids produces a fantasy collectable miniatures game, such as the Mage Knight and Heroclick fantasy games, the science fiction games MechWarrior and Rocketmen, as well as the quasi-historical Pirates of the Spanish Main.
