Combined Arms 2000 is a free print-and-play board game for modern era combat. The description from Board Game Geek:
Combined Arms 2000 is a light wargame simulating armored warfare using modern technology. It features a realistic scale for both movement and fire (1 space = 1 kilometer), a good selection of vehicle and infantry types, off-board fire support, and fixed-wing air support.
Players build armies from parts of a shared deck, then fight! The attacker has only ten turns to seize his objectives. Wise use of reserves, clever scouting, and bold maneuver are all needed to attain victory.
This is a free print & play release on BoardGameGeek. Print cards and box to 110 lb cardstock, and rules to a single sheet of typing paper. Heavy lines on the box are cut lines; lighter lines are all mountain folds.
Escape of the Dead is a free print and play game. From the BGG description:
You are a survivor of a zombie apocalypse and you’re stuck on a house with a useless car and hordes of zombies attacking from the lawn. But wait, you found a tool enough to fix the car to escape the hordes of zombies. ARE YOU READY FOR IT?
Escape of the dead is a solo game. In the game you are trying to fix the car while defending yourself against hordes of zombies. You’re given 4 Action dice per turn, distribute between 3 sections of the game (either by shooting zombie, fixing the barricade and/or fixing the car). Roll for success on each section. Any zombie that survived will attack the barricade. When you successfully killed 10 zombies you will be rewarded with power-up. You lose when your barricade is down (i.e barricade’s hp equals zero). You win when the car is fixed 100% and get out of the house.
All you need to play
1 A4 paper to print the board+rule
4 six sided dice
a pencil
an eraser
Goblin Slayer is a free print-and-play board game. From the Boardgame Geek description:
Goblin Slayer is a quick and easy to play fantasy boardgame of underground combat for two players.
One player controls the evil denizens of Snarlsbad Cavern, a numberless horde of goblins who jealously guard a fabulous object called the Shimmering Widget.
The other player controls Stormbeard the dwarf, armed with his legendary battle axe, who must enter Snarlsbad Cavern, acquire the Shimmering Widget and escape.
Goblin Slayer is a free print and play boardgame, and features a special geomorphic game board designed to create a “perfect” but different cave system each time the game is played.
Agricola is one of the great “Euro” style board games of recent years, but like more than a few, it can be quite involved. Agricola Express takes the strategy and basics of that game and boils it down to a dice based game. Even better: it’s free and ownership of Agricola is not required.
Battle For Glyderion is a game where you use poker chips to represent your troops and then flick them about on the tabletop to conduct battles. The downloads include rules and stickers for your chips.
Dune Express is a print-and-play board game based on the 1970s era Avalon Hill game Dune. The authors write:
DUNE Express is a print-and-play boardgame. It is based on a game published in the late 70s, which was set in the well known science fiction universe created by Frank Herbert. The original game was quite complicated. DUNE Express is a community-written version of this game which is much more simple and quicker to play (hence the “express”). I chose to take these Express rules and create all the components for the game as a portfolio piece. I was keen to give it a Steampunk theme and to avoid it looking too technologically advanced.
Battleflag is a solo American Civil War themed card game with anime-style illustrations. Interesting. The author writes:
Welcome to the BattleFlag TCG site. It could have been set with any theme, but i settled on the American civil war as I had been playing around with some Anime drawing in that era. The game although quite simple went through quite a number of mechanics before it felt right.
The idea is you have this deck of cards which you draw a hand of both good and bad cards, until you have four cards. You choose (within the rules) how many you play per turn. But end a turn with four cards and you lose. There are two ways to win, play and link to the three objective cards or link to the enemy general. There are also two ways to lose, finish the deck or have four cards in your hand at the end of a turn. Pretty straight forward, right.
As the game plays you have to choose when you play the enemy cards, unless your about to end a turn with four cards due to a rough draw or have been saving the hurt up. These can quickly eat away or cut off the ground made toward the enemy general. So you choose how you lose =). The game is alittle more forgiving than alot of other solo games out there, so make the right choices and your in with a chance.
Mostly I made this game for me, as there was nothing else out there which had everything i was after. Quick, easy to set up, replayability, no dice, or number counting, and simple. Anyways I hope you like it.
Miniature Wargaming is part of the "adventure games" hobby, which includes r ole p laying and board games. Wargamers recreate battles on the tabletop with toy soldiers, like a more complicated game of chess. Models range in height from 6mm to 28mm tall, with 15mm and 25mm being the most popular. There also is a growing interest in toy soldiers and military models, such as the 1/32 and 1/35 scale plastic soldiers from Conte, and Marx.
The most popular miniature wargames are fantasy and science fiction based, such as Warhammer, Warhammer 40K, Warmachine and The Lord of the Rings. World War II games such as Flames of War and Axis and Allies are new favorites. Other favorite historical periods include Napoleonics, the American Civil War, and ancients, such as Romans or Greeks. Other gamers enjoy miniature naval wargames, recreating battles like Trafalgar, Jutland and the Coral Sea.
Hobbyists research historical periods and paint their tiny soldiers in accurate uniforms. Others develop "historically realistic" rules sets or build scale battlefield terrain using model railroad techniques.

Some of the bigger hobby companies are Games Workshop, which produces Warhammer, Wargames Foundry and Old Glory Miniatures. Wizards of the Coast produces several lines of pre-painted miniatures games, such as the Star Wars and Dungeons and Dragons miniatures games, and a historical game with pre-painted miniatures: The new Axis and Allies game. Wizkids produces a fantasy collectable miniatures game, such as the Mage Knight and Heroclick fantasy games, the science fiction games MechWarrior and Rocketmen, as well as the quasi-historical Pirates of the Spanish Main.
