I just posted a poll on the front page asking about your favorite wargames magazine. Why not go vote and then return here to comment.
My current favorite is Wargames Journal. It’s pricey here in the states, but it’s got a good mix of articles and photos, and I like the free games in each issue. (I’m a rules junkie).
My least favorite is Historical Miniature Gamer. I don’t think I’m going to resubscribe.
My all- round favorite has been “Miniature Wargames” (though hard to find out here in the boonies). “Wargames Illustrated” always felt a little too cerebral with the “serious” history articles that were hard to relate to actual tabletop gaming, while MW always had articles that would appeal to the beginner.
Photo kudos to WI, though.
The few issues of MWAN that I had a chance to view were awesome!
Regarding what seems to be the current poll… I’m a mini gamer thru & thru. Add figs to an RPG type game and I’ll be there. Necromunda, 5150… But plain pen & paper RPGs, I’m not really interested.
In regard to the poll about RPGs. I got started in RPGs long before miniature wargaming, but always had an interest in both. Interestingly, I don’t use miniatures when RPG gaming.
This is a 48 Mbyte version of the magazine with improved picture quality. Grognard is slang for someone who likes playing wargames. Web-Grognards therefore has a unique collection of various conflict simulation game information, including rules errata and variants, game reviews and links to relevant web sites. The emphasis is on board wargames, but miniatures, computer and card-based wargames are also covered. Many hundreds of games are covered here. Updates for Web-Grognards normally appear each Sunday. This site depends on submissions for new material, so please contribute if you can.

I have been playing role-playing games about as long as i have played minature games.
Since 1984
RPG’s give you the chance to play out what can happen before the big battles begin (Take a look at LOTR movies all that happened before the battles took place.
Using miniatures in RPG’s to me is a must the visual it gives makes for a much better game session.
The Dark Heresy RPG is a great example the 40K universe has such a huge back ground it had always screamed for an RPG and now it has one.
Also RPG’s are a great way to bring new gamers into playing miniatures.

So true! That is why I preferred “Wargames Illustrated” - It had a good mix of historical background with game play write ups. For me, it is hard to find decent English language magazines in the shops worth the money. I need to find something I will read cover-to-cover. (PC magazines with a DVD, cost around EUR14 to 18, about three times the cover price.) I like “Miniature Wargames” too, but when it came to the toss up for a subscription, “Wargames Illustrated” won. Though, they have recently had a revamp, and seem to be more about the games, with more pages on shows. The last few issues seem to have more pages of the just photos of wargame tables at shows, which is less interesting to me. When the sub comes round for renewal, I might switch.
Miniature Wargames is a favourite. In fact many innovative game mechanics has been introduced in the shape of “fast game rules for the obscure XXXX era” articles.
Always the same story.
Read the article, get interested, buy the few miniatures required, barely paint them, play, enjoy, modify, modify, modify.
Repeat the procedure with another article.
