I currently reside in central Arizona-- catalog of gaming interests follows:

Presently played:

Red Chicken Rising-- lightweight Space Fleet battles
Command Decision III in 15mm (1940 Italians my specialty rasberry )
Eagles Over Europe WWII air battles 1:300 (more or less)
Crimson Skies (original version and variants for WWI and WWII)
Pirates! (Flagship Games version)
On to Richmond in 12mm (fictional armies)
Necromunda (and occasionally variants for WWI and Viet- Nam)
Go In and Sink modern naval rules in 1/2400

Occasionally played:

Epic SF
MGB (simple home- grown rules for WWII gunboats)
Squadron UK superhero FRP
DB Colonials in 15mm from an old Miniature Wargames issue
Panzer ‘80 (home- grown rules for modern armor in 1/285)

Not often played:

Hordes of the Things
DBM
DBR, both in 15mm
Colonial Skirmish (and Old West gunfights (and F&IW skirmishes)) with the British rules or Ed Allen’s Rencounter in 25mm
Grand Army Napoleonics in 15mm
Man’o War fantasy naval

Games that fall into the “Not Often Played” category are those that haven’t inspired a lot of local interest.  In a lot of cases this seems to be due to an unwillingness by younger gamers to spend time in the creative part of the hobby-- organizing, building models, painting, etc. (insert classic “old guy” grumble here… harrummmph… ).  While lots of the younger crowd are more than willing to try the new hybrid mini/ boardgames like Star Wars, Axis and Allies minis, etc. there is less interest in getting into games that require more involvement (more grumble here… wink ).

We’ve had better luck with those systems like Necromunda or Red Chicken Rising that only need a few figures for play.  Maybe the videogame generation can cope with this a little more easily-- we’ll keep trying, though, to get them involved with the “mainstream”.

On the future agenda, I hope to try a WWII General Quarters game this weekend.

The future of the hobby really requires a continued infusion of new blood-- and while I grumble at the (sometimes) lack of interest by the younger set in “traditional” wargaming, it is, I think, very important to expose newcomers to the variety of gaming experiences available.  They won’t always show an immediate interest, but a spark may have been lit…

FWIW,
Diego

I live in Southern California.  I currently am playing Flames of War at several local game stores and conventions.  I also play Games Workshop Lord of the Rings (with my boys).  I used to play 5mm Napoleonics using Brian Stokes “Housrules Napoleonics” about 10 years ago.  I also have a number of 1/285 scale miniatures both WWII and Modern Armor that I have used with various rule systems over the years (but a currently gathering dust due to a lack of other 1/285 scale players nearby).

I also have been looking at getting back into “Ancients”, but the local gaming groups in the area all seem to have different “favorite” rule sets they use.  Meaning that depending on what hobby shop I would play at, I would have to know up to 3 or 4 different sets of rules and also base my figures in different ways.  So I am currently taking a “wait and see” for the near future.  I used to play “Tactica” a long time ago and had a Greek Phalanx army (kind of Spartan inspired).

I live in Oldham (just outside Manchester), England and play Warhammer 40K & LOTR.  I have also just started to collect Napoleonic 1/72 scale and am writing a new ruules system based on the style of Games Workshop, as I found it a bit difficult to cope with the whole 4 men to a base bit after spending years of GW. I live in Texas, between Austin and San Antonio.

I started wargaming with Tactics II played a bunch of board games for years as late as the 1980’s using the Europa series of games and the Grand Europa .  Miniatures found me in 15 mm Napoleonics in the Empire I, II and III and some with Angriff in 1/285th.  Since the 90’s, I’ve played mostly computer games, with solo campaigns in Napoleonics and now in French & Indian Wars with home-made skirmish and campaign rules.  The thought has occurred to me that an online forum could be a place to have the grand tactical/operational/strategic level of a campaign played by other folks and then resolve the tactical battles via skirmish rules, myself, solo.  Ah, so many ideas; so little time!

I also play Red Orchestra and Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin including in some of the CM:BB campaigns, but that is beginning to pall as I have my own ideas about teamwork and that isn’t very popular these days.  Theatre of War is coming out from Battlefront shortly and that might be fun.

Just too many different games, too many eras, too many different ways to play (computers, Internet, face to face, miniatures)!

I live in Fowlerville/wbberville area of Michigan.  I play pretty much anything historical in the way of skirmish.  I game in 15mm, 20mm and 25/28mm.  I’m a terrible painter and a rules junkie.  My favorite rules are currently the Face of Battle series written by Mike Ball and some of the various rules written by Chris Peers

I live on Cape Cod in the People’s Republic of MA. and the current gaming interest is 28mm WW2 skirmishes using Disposable Heroes. I’m a big Sci Fi fan however and have played VOR, Void, Warzone 2nd & Ultimate Eds, Urban War, 5150, Bugs!, Stargrunt2 (one of my favorites), Star Mogul, Necromunda, Dirtside, and Full Thrust.

I just picked up Rezolution and I’m keeping an eye on Infinity too. Urban Mammoth is slated to release an updated version of Void, to be called Metropolis, but I’m not holding my breath. If it ever shows, I’ll get it tho - I found Void to be a good workable set of rules. I tried 40K a couple times but it never took.

I use my own set of generic sci fi house rules called “Dead Run” to introduce new gamers to the hobby, so that gets a lot of use, only because it’s quick & easy and doesn’t cost anything. So to answer the question: it’s that and Disposable Heroes right now.

Which brings me to a question.... I’d like some feedback on Dead Run. Are there a couple people who’d like to do a read thru and playtest some games? It’s a small scale skirmish game and you can use any Near Future/Sci Fi figs. Thanks.

I’m still settling which is married speak for there is still too much to be done around the house for my wife to give me time off for gaming but it shouldn’t too much longer.  We’ll keep in touch and when she gives me the green light we’ll get together for some games.  I’m hoping to run a game at MichiCon but that is still up in the air

Northern Virginia, the no-mans land of the ACW.

All types of gaming! Card driven board wargames, fog of war, morale based, rpg like, non-point driven miniature gaming appreciated.

Known to favor both north and south gaming of ACW, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Scratch built terrain and Paper miniatures enthusiast.

All round down to earth kinda guy.

Good gaming to you, wherever you might be!

i live in cebu city, phillipines. i play no quarters but only the skirmish version coz i have yet to assemble my army.

what sucks about where i live is that most if not all the gamers prefer pre-painted miniatures so the 1 and only hobby shop that we have doesnt carry unpainted assembly required figures. and all they play is dungeons and dragons and dreamblade.

and i cant buy online!!

Southern Colorado, USA.

At the moment I play nothing because I just moved and am trying to find opponents/ get a club going.

When I do play, I like/know:
WW2: Flames of War, Command Decision, Crossfire, Spearhead and various other WW2 game systems.
WW1: Trench Wars, Over The Top(the CD World War 1 Variant) and Square Bashing, Red Baron, Canvas Eagles
ACW: Johnny Reb, Fire & Fury
Ancient: DBA, DBM
Napoleonic: Shako, Fire & Fury Napoleonic(used to like Nap’s Battles, but I find it too tedious now)
Various and asundry RPGs over the years

I dont know how to play LOTR or Warhammer, but want to learn - it looks cool.

Other oddball historcial periods I am really interested in and would like to find the apparently five(5), other people on planet earth who are also into them:

The WW1 Balkans campaigns
British colonial and ZULU war.
The Anglo-Boer War
Russian Civil War
Russo-Japanese War
Franco-Prussian War 1870
English Civil War
