My seven year old son had me build a custom gaming table and then spend thousands on the “Fantasy ” Warhammer armies.I run “WARRIORS OF CHAOS” and he fields the “LIZARDMEN’ army.We have had a blast. This fall we will be expanding to the futuristic 40K armies, and these two types of armies gives us a small break from the WWII battles we have been fighting(I received tons of help from everyone here on what type of rules to use with 1/72 WWII pieces).LOTR….does not float my boat…so I say go Warhammer!!!!Go with 18th century French/English armies, fuedal Japanese armies,or even Greek/Persian armies….but I say NO to LOTR!lol

I’d weigh in, but need more info. Which do others in your area prefer? Which do you prefer? Is budget a consideration? Are you partial to large massed battles, or small skirmishes? Have you considered Warmachine or Hordes? Or Confrontation?

Just asking because Confrontation looks pretty cool. And cheap. I have a ton of AT43 figs and they’re very nice high quality prepaints. Warmachine and Hordes both scale up for large battles and have heavy armored units. Seen the WM Khador faction? Or the H’s Skorne? Very, very cool.

First: Do you like to play a skermish type game lots of figures very tough heros?
Do you like the LOTR background?
Do you like to play on smaller tables say 2x2 4x4?

if so then yes LOTR is the game you want the miniatures are a little cheaper but still sweet looking.
the books are nice Plus the game gives you two ways to play.

Small skermish type games of maybe 10 - 60 figures or say 60 - 120
Or large battles played on bigger tables with hundreds of figures say 80 - 200 0r 200 - 1000 figures.

both types have seperate rulebooks you cannot use stats from one game in the other I love the game plus i love the world of LOTR.

2nd: Do you like mass battles such as units of say 5-60 figures each normally about 5 - 25 each.
where you can have say as little as 4 units on the board with two hero’s or you can have 15 units on the board with 6 hero’s.
most games are played with say 6 -8 units and 2 - 4 hero’s?

most battles can be played on say a 6 x 4 table i prefer 4x8
cost is a little higher because there are more figures but the rules are great and the background is good.

I myself prefer WARHAMMER FANTASY BATTLES over the LOTR but i play both.

if your new to gaming with miniatures I would start with LOTR but if your just looking to get into a new system play WFB

Hope I helped
