I’ve read a couple reviews and threads about it, and people rave like it’s the best thing since sliced bread for sci fi skirmish. They say it features good mechanics and all kinds of nifty added dimensions for hacking and robots and cool equipment and such.

I’m eyeing the 2nd Ed book as something to investigate in the New Year. I’ll proxy figs. Any personal experiences playing the game?

* I confess I’ve bought, then sold, their figs a couple times. They’re simply outstanding, but I can’t do them justice paint-wise and I always let them go. Not to mention the price tag.

I bought the first edition, but just for the pictures.  It’s thick as anything.  I just can’t put that much effort into a game that I’m the only guy who’s interested in playing.

I’ve never actually seen this game in person. Is it still available?

Yes, the 2nd Edition was just released: https://www.fantization.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=10708

There are free Quick Start Rules on the War Store: http://www.thewarstore.com/InfinityFreeDownloads.html

You have to put them in a shopping cart, check out, yada yada, so I threw them up here: http://www.littleleadheroes.com/misc/infinity-qsr.pdf

Not sure how these differ from the current edition.

Finally received my copy of the 2nd Ed rules today and good lord there’s a lot of pictures! And fluff. Certainly good production value for a rule book. I’ll have to sit down this weekend, read through them and provide some sort of overview of the game mechanics themselves. It certainly covers a lot of ground though.

I primarily play historical games, but I do play this one from time to time; I have collected portions of three of the armies.
A mixed blessing is that this game uses considerably fewer figures than most games, though on a figure-per-figure basis it’ll hit you in the pocket.  Most of the figures are great, some outstanding.  The game plays well once, the basics are learned.  The rules are available as a download from the Corvus Belli site under downloads.

What is your opinion of the rules Dentatus?

I did an initial read-through and while the core mechanics seem interesting and have potential, the rules are oriented toward their specific line of figs. No surprises there - it makes sense - but I sort of glazed over trying to cross reference troop types and weapons, and set the book back on my shelf. I haven’t picked it up since. I do appreciate the high quality production value for both the book and figs, but they require more time and attention than I have available right now.

I’m in the ‘fast-play and generic’ season.

Me too. I am a fan of generic rules myself so I will give Infinity a miss.
