Product Description
The Battle of Gettysburg has become the great "what if" of American history. Gettysburg unfolds an alternate path and creates for General Robert E. Lee the victory he might have won. Full of dramatic battle scenes, military strategy, and captivating period details, Gettysburg stands as a remarkable entry in the pantheon of Civil War literature and as a vivid novel of the realities of war.
The year is 1863, and General Robert E. Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia are poised to attack the North and claim the victory that could end the brutal conflict. Launching his men into a vast sweeping operation, General Lee, acting as he did at Chancellorsville, Second Manassas, and Antietam, displays the audacity of old. He knows he has but one more good chance to gain ultimate victory. Now Lee's lieutenants and the men in the ranks, imbued with this renewed spirit of the offensive, embark on the Gettysburg Campaign that many dream "should have been"...

PARTICULARLY SPECTACULAR February 1, 2010 MISTER SJEM (CALIF BAY AREA United States) An alternative history tale exploring what if the Confederate States of America (hereinafter referred to as the CSA) won at Gettysburg. It's well done and focuses not only on the strategies and tactics but the characters as well. All said I would only recommend this to military and history buffs as it isn't a good first fictional account for someone who wants to know about Gettysburg.
Gettysburg: A Novel of the Civil War December 31, 2009 D. Clifford (C-bus, Ohio) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I don't know where to begin...this is my first "alternative history" book that I have read and it will be the last. Don't get me wrong the book was well written, etc, etc but I guess I now realize why people write alt. histories. They are written by the fans of the losers in history. Obviously complete fantasy, do not waste your time reading this book, there are way too many good books out there that you need to read before you die. I read a review by someone else and have to agree, in this book everything goes perfectly for the South and the North has everything go wrong, not to mention all the Northern generals that are killed or wounded. The book is a complete joke. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. By the way the South is never going to rise...it was and is a lost cause and an evil cause...
Great gift! December 26, 2009 J. E. JONES (USA) My dad is a Civil War buff and he also likes Newt Gingrich so he loved his Christmas present from me. It arrived quickly too.
Excellent! December 2, 2009 Brian E. Purvis (Dallas, TX) Great book with an imaginative play on history. Excellent insight into the various personalities.
General Buford June 28, 2009 Matt D. (Franklin, NC United States) I have been to Gettysburg and read about it many times. I enjoyed the book right up until the time it stated that Brigadier General Buford died at Gettysburg. He died in December, 1863 and was given the brevet rank of Major General by President Lincoln days before he died. I know the book is fiction, but I closed it and gave it away after that. The tour guides verified that fact.
