Product Description The StarCraft Battle Chest is an incredible package of the great StarCraft games, on one DVD!
Amazon.com Review The full versions of StarCraft and the acclaimed expansion pack Brood War, as well as complete strategy guides for each, make StarCraft: Battle Chest a treasure chest for real-time strategy fans. Instead of two similarly powered enemies facing off, the three distinct races in StarCraft have unique capabilities and strategies. Everyone still competes in the RTS genre's typical race for resources, but that's the only shared trait. Terrans can move their bulky mechanized bases as necessary, while the reptilian Zerg grow their colonies and warriors from mutating larvae. Meanwhile, the noble Protoss warp in equipment from their home world using psionic powers. Not only does game maker Blizzard juggle the races' playability and match it with superb art and sound effects, it also weaves together an engrossing three-act plot. Early on, as a Terran magistrate, you spend a breathtaking 30 minutes defending against a Zerg onslaught. As the story unfolds around you, you'll experience the Zerg's hive mentality and decipher the mysterious Protoss by the game's dramatic conclusion. Missions vary in scope and are effectively framed with dialogue, chapter screens, and in-mission exposition. Multiplayer games are also very well represented by Blizzard's own free Battle.net service. If you'd rather play over a local area network, StarCraft will generously "spawn" up to seven copies so your friends can join in. In keeping with StarCraft's groundbreaking design, Brood War presents you with three sides of a galactic conflict. Scheming humans, insidious Zerg, and proud Protoss collide again, with stunning new cinematics setting the stage. Old friends and foes and ominous new arrivals give the story a breakneck pace, while a handful of additions to each race's arsenal makes for tense battles. Brood War also features stellar new environments and ambient art, as well as more than 100 additional multiplayer maps. Some missions require a bit of finesse, breaking the resource-gathering routine while making good use of the new units. Humans now have Valkyrie missile frigates as well as medics who automatically try to heal your grunts. New for the Zerg air force is the acid-spewing Devourer; the new Lurker unit provides heavy-duty (under)ground support. Along with the Corsair fighter, the Protoss reenter the fray with Dark Templar, which can merge to form the devastating Dark Archon. Unfortunately, units old and new still suffer from weak artificial intelligence in path finding. Real-time strategy games don't get any more epic or any more satisfying. --Jack Gardiner
Amazon.com Product Description This package includes both Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood Wars plus Prima Publishing's Official Strategy Guides, which offer you strategies, statistics, and details about new worlds to give you the upper hand in gaining control over the galaxy's resources.

An Awe-Inspiring Creation March 11, 2010 Brett Kimsel (Pennsylvania, USA) StarCraft is a game developed by Blizzard Entertainment, and is, to this day, a major game in the RTS genre of games. It, and it's expansion, Brood War, are played by millions worldwide. It is referred to as an e-sport, and truly sticks to the Blizzard mantra of "Easy to learn; hard to master."
I got this game through a friend's suggestion; wanting to hone my skills in RTS games, I eagerly accepted and bought the game so I could play alongside him. Over the past several weeks, we've been doing the occasional 1v1, and are generally having a great time. After buying it, though, I had played through the campaigns so that I knew what I was doing, and found a moving story within it.
The story of how the human super-nation falls, and a new one is formed, and how the heroes are cast off as traitors amazes me. The depth of the Zerg and Protoss campaigns are inspiring, and truly better than some more modern titles' stories.
Control groups were a great thing to be introduced to, and I was pleased that there are no "Hero-Units," as there are in Warcraft 3 (except in the campaign). In this game, you control a massive army, and attempt to stymie (and destroy) your opponent's economic and military progression. By doing so, you defeat your opponent, and seize victory in your grasp.
I eagerly look forward to the sequel, StarCraft II, and its expansions.
Incredible RTS Game that started it all March 4, 2010 jslostwithout This game is phenominal to say the least. It is very fun and was the first RTS game i've ever played once a friend introduced me to it. It is so much fun to play and very addicting. The only reason I sold it is because not many people play online, and the ones that do will take you out in a heartbeat and the single player missions go by pretty fast. This game would be incredibly fun to play at a LAN Party but I never went to one yet.
Best game ever. February 6, 2010 Eduardo Aburto Ortiz (Minneapolis, MN USA) I had this game since the first time that it came out. After 12 years, I still enjoy playing it. It just an intense strategy game where you have a lot to learn and to improve.
starcraft for 20 bucks, you can't go wrong January 18, 2010 steve siverling (Somewhere, Wisconsin) I now see why this game was such a hit. It deserved to be. Even ten years later it's a fun game to play. I'm running it on a xp machine home. For 20 bucks? What a bargain. If you didn't play it before you now is your chance. Play it before Starcraft 2 comes out!
The best rts without a doubt December 28, 2009 conan78 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all this is a 1997 product and people are still buying it and still playing it. In Korea this is like soccer in Europe and baseball in USA. Need to say more or do i have to compare with other rts games. Yes there are a lot of good rts games out there but this is the one you should play if you consider yourself an rts fan.Three races to play, excellently balanced, magical gameplay and a lifetime of replayability. if you don't own a copy then this is a perfect gift to make to yourself.
