Amazing February 16, 2010 Ms Z 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am so grateful to the filmmakers for taking on this project. It is a very moving story from just the last few years about how women in Liberia banded together to call for peace from the civil war which was destroying the country. Some of the footage is graphic-- it's not for children's eyes. Highly recommended.
Absolutely Powerful! February 6, 2010 Theatre Diva (Champaign, Il United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A must see documentary showing the courage and power of women who wouldn't take no for an answer.
Thanks to these women, there is a female president on the continent of Africa!
Pray the Devil...is a DVD worth owning February 4, 2010 Marilyn Langhurst 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a DVD about women and about the power of peaceful protest. The film footage is incredible. The results these Liberian women achieve serve as a lesson to world that women should be a crucial part of any peace settlements and reconciliation. See UN Security Council Resolution, 1325.
Liberia Revisited January 31, 2010 Ruth A. Hogan (Rochester, New York United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In 1966, I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the town of Butaw, Sinoe County, Liberia. I loved my students, the Liberian people and the country. During the time of fighting and turmoil, I read newspapers and watched television reports of what was happening. Until I saw the movie, "Pray the Devil Back to Hell", I was unaware of the magnitude of the suffering of the Liberian people. The power, perserverance and courage of the Liberian women, to stand up against Charles Taylor and the LURD forces is truly inspiring and heroic. I hope someday to be able to return to this beautiful country and its beautiful people.
The story mainstream news missed December 20, 2009 JoDi (St. Louis MO) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
What a shame that none of the news media saw fit to report on these courageous women. Instead we got/get the daily focus on men and their guns.
The story as seen through amateur video and film is compelling and uplifting.
To see how their work continues is even more impressive. Kudos to Abigail Disney and Gina Reticker for unearthing and making this gem.
I recommend this movie wholeheartedly to anyone ready for a thoughtful and uplifting true story.
