Can't Get Enough Egan November 24, 2009 J. L. Strine (York, Pa) I've read both Leanings and Leanings II(the Cycle World column collections) and Side Glances (the Road and Track column collection). Needing more Peter Egan, I ordered On The Road. It very strongly upholds the tradition of Sir Egan hitting the sweet spot of escapist, wish-I-were-him word craft. Of course these books are about cars and motorcycles. But they are at least as much about good friends, a supportive wife, and a cast of characters met on the road. You need not know a cam lobe from an ear lobe to enjoy these books. If, like me, your life lacks the oppurtunity for adventure, and your travelin' Jones ain't bein' fed, try a little Egan!
off the road November 14, 2009 D. Borst the book came very quickly and in excellent condition

great reading October 7, 2009 B. Bates (Santa Fe, NM USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I came to know Peter Egan through his articles in Cycle World. I purchased both of his "Leanings" books for the motorcycle stories. Bought this book to see how he compared when writing about cars. The stories are universal, whether he is riding a motorcycle or driving a car. His humor is great and his insight is spot on. I would recommend this book to anybody who appreciates good writing, especially where it concerns vehicles.
Read this, even if you don't like cars August 16, 2009 lapsrus (Irvine, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Peter Egan loves cars almost as much as he loves the human condition and world history. He uses car trips to show us the places and people never seen in normal travelogues.
Note that he and his traveling companions do not use Camrys or SUVs to transport them along Interstates; they use old Cadillacs, Porsches, Isettas and Hindustan Ambassadors on roads generally ignored since Eisenhower revolutionized cross country travel.
Great stuff. My only beef is all of the typos in this book. I don't remember them being in the original articles in Road & Track.
Wonderful Reading August 12, 2009 Randy (Tallahassee, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Egan simply puts you there on the trip with him. The cars are speacial. The trips are adventurous. Peter's observations and descriptions are insightful and crystal clear. Car-guy or not the stories are skillfully written and will bring back your own memories and instill a desire to pack a bag and hit the road. A great book for the nightstand as the book can be read one trip at a time. If you like cars and or road trips, don't miss this book.
